Strawberry Harvest

Every morning from my garden.  Enough for my breakfast, enough for a smoothie, enough for the freezer over the course of a few weeks.

I have to get out there every morning, preferably before 9:00, to stay ahead of the birds.  There's usually more than I think there will be, so I stretch out my shirt to hold them as I continue to pick.  I have also been picking a blueberry or two each morning.  Usually the blueberries and strawberries do not overlap, with the blueberries typically ripening in late May to early June.  We've been so warm/hot and dry this spring everything is a month or more ahead of normal.  We had a record high yesterday of 91 degrees and we are 8 inches below normal rainfall for this year (quite a change from the record flooding of last April and May here along the Mississippi).  Unwatered fields and grass are starting to look like they do in July!

There is nothing quite like fresh fruit hand picked from the garden. Sorry to the birds, but too yummy to give away.

Your strawberries and blueberries sound so delicious picked fresh! The weather does cause the berries to ripen too soon. We had a horrible hot and dry summer in Texas last year but thankfully our lakes are filled back up from spring rains. Enjoy your fresh fruit! Pam

Your strawberries look delish! Our climate is not as warm as yours, so we are quite a ways away from fresh strawberries here. Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment--I appreciate it!

Our strawberries are close! We had to put ours under a screened box to keep the birds out.

I net my strawberries so I don't have to try to beat the birds to them!

Fresh from the garden strawberries are so delish! You are getting more than me. I think I need to rejuvenate my strawberry bed this year.
