April Calendar for 366 Challenge

This year I am participating in the 366 Calendar Challenge of Kate Crane at The Kathryn Wheel.  Each month the participants create a calendar page, and then through the month write, draw, or journal a small something for each day (this is a leap year, hence 366 days).

Here are my March pages all completed:

And here are my new April pages, with April 1 filled in.

I really like how they turned out.  I acrylic paint for the backgrounds, some gesso for the day circles, a bit of stamping with sequin waste and some other tools using the paint smeared wipey, and then some water color pencils to make flower petals.  I made too many circles on one of the branches on the right side, so in the extra circle I wrote a quote from E.M.Forster that I read on a blog yesterday: "What is the good of your stars and trees, your sunrise and the wind, if they do not enter into our daily lives."

I really like your pages. You've been very creative with your shapes and layout! But, what I really LOVE is your chicken coop...I want one so bad!!! I don't have chickens, don't have room for chickens, have a dog and two cats who would think chickens were a new toy...but I'd love a cute chicken coop, go figure! Had fun reading your blog since I like to garden and want to put a mini-library in my front yard this summer. Thanks for stopping by..I'm now following you!

Your April looks great! I know you said how you did it, but I just don't know enough about it for it to mean anything to me. Have you done a tutorial? I might have missed it if you did. Also, I love how your garden reflects your art (and your chicken coop too). Oh....and I can't forget to think how awesome that small library idea is. I missed that story on NPR. (I adore NPR and This American Life.)

Beautiful pages and fabulous colors. I like the way your days aren't all the same shape and size....and your backgrounds are wonderful! Great job.

Hi Diana-
I left my comment after seeing your pages on Kate's site - didn't realize it was my mathamatically challenged buddy...tee hee. You asked what it was like in Alaska in April and I had occassion to seriously consider that tonight. I had to go north up the highway by about 70 miles tonight for work and as I was coming home I started wondering how I would answer that question. It's still cold, but warmer - say in the 40's during the day so all the filthy snow on the side of the roads start to melt and there is water everywhere. We call it break up. Lots of brown and ugliness. Until you look up. Tonight the sun was blazing in the sky and reflecting off the majestic mountains which are packed with snow so they reflect the light in ways they only do at this time of the year. First they were bathed in pink with really dark blueish shadows...that faded to a faint blue-purple over the mountain range. It was a fantastic light show. After 35 years up here I am still amazed at how truly beautiful it is. So the secret to April in Alaska is to look up.
Has nothing to do with light and airy yellow - so don't ask me why I spent so long trying to achieve it on the pages. Lol.

Wow. Super colours and luuurve the day circles. They remind me of a delicate plant that when dried has semi opaque leaves like your circles ... I can't recall its name though -. Well done
